Editorial Animal S. De L.R.

Editorial Animal S. De L.R. is the company that owns the news webportal Animal Político. The latter is a Mexican digital media which is characterized by investigative journalism. Among the most outstanding publications of Animal Político are “Las empresas fantasmas de Duarte” (in English: The Bogus Companies of Duarte), which caused the escape and subsequently the imprisonment of Javier Duarte - former governor of the State of Veracruz from the political party PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party). He was charged for faking purchases of goods and services from fake companies in order to divert resources from the public budget which reached millions of Mexican pesos. Other such investigation is “La estafa maestra” (in English: The Master Fraud), where the media exposed the modus operandi of the previous federal government to divert public resources to particular bank accounts especially for funding political campaigns.

In this last investigation the name of the PRI presidential candidate on 2017, José Antonio Meade surged. He has been known for cases of irregular management while he was the Secretary for Social Development. After the publication of the investigation Meade threatened to sue Animal Político, which was condemned by many organizations that fight for the freedom of expression and the right for access to information.

Animal Político is one of the digital media which receives least money for government publicity. Because of this they are funding their investigations with the readers' money and through grants from international organizations.
