Cooperative Proceso

According to the web page of the weekly journal Proceso, managed by the company Comunicación e Información S.A. de C.V., the majoritarian shareholders whose names are public, are: Francisco Álvarez Romero, Estela Franco Arroyo, Salvador Corro Ortíz and Rafael Rodríguez Castañeda. Julio Scherer Ibarra still appears on the web, but in January 2019 he resigned from this Board of Directors to be part of the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. His sister, Maria Scherer, will replace him in office. 

Estela Franco Arroyo is one of the most known Latin American writers in the region; Salvador Corro Ortiz is a journalist and deputy director of the weekly journal; Rafael Rodríguez Castañeda is a journalist and the director of the journal; and Julio Scherer Ibarra is a lawyer and son of the founder of Proceso, Julio Scherer García.

Among the minority shareholders there are journalists, writers, academics, intellectuals and ordinary citizens who, according to the founders of the journal, have been investing in shares in value of 500 Mexican pesos to help launching the weekly journal. This was a response to the massive layoff and harassment suffered by dozens of critical journalists whose investigations were censored in the 1970s by the federal government.
