Since the 1920s the family Junco de la Vega has been involved in the media business. In 1922 they founded their first newspaper, El Sol, in the city of Monterrey. This family has been part fo the Mexican press since its very beginning, often with conservative editorial policy - Rodolfo Junco de la Vega Voigt is the founder and grandfather of Alejandro Junco de la Vega González, the current president of the newspaper.

After founding the newspaper El Sol, the family founded El Norte also in the city of Monterrey, and years later Reforma and Metro in Mexico City, in addition to Mural in the city of Guadalajara and Palabra in the city of Saltillo.
